After 45 Years of Service with APAC
Robert Oneil "Cobb" Watson Finally Calls it Quits
In 1966 the cost of fuel was .32 cents per gallon. The average cost of a new house was $14,200.00, new car prices were around $2,650.00, and in the United States, the average annual income was approximately $6,900.00. LBJ was President, Ronald Reagan entered politics by becoming governor of California and cigarette packs began including a warning label stating "smoking is hazardous to your health." It was also the year that Cobb Watson came to work for APAC, know then in Memphis as O'neal Paving.
On July 13 employees at APAC Tennessee in Memphis gathered for a luncheon to honor our most senior employee, retiring mixer operator and water truck driver Cobb Watson. Cobb has worked for the same company, but under five different names since 1966. During Wednesday's lunch the guest of honor shook hands and ate lunch with fellow crew members and members of management, but when asked to tell stories about the "good ole' days" in asphalt paving, Cobb just laughed a little and said, "things have changed.. A lot."
The employees of APAC Tennessee wish Cobb the very best as he enters this new chapter of life. He will be missed.
